Where this service fits
You have industry software, a customer project or a product roadmap and need hardware that fits the workflow. SOTEN brings together industrial design, mechanical and electronic engineering, system software and manufacturing collaboration. Start by checking established platforms before defining new development.
Define engineering scope and deliverables
| Service level | Engineering change | Stage outputs |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Retain board and enclosure; configure branding, software and supported options | Configured sample, software list and production configuration record |
| Semi | Adapt modules, interfaces, mounting and software on an established platform | Gap list, engineering sample, interface notes and change-specific test results |
| Full | Define a new enclosure, board or dedicated device system | Stage design outputs, samples, pilot build and agreed development files |
These levels compare development depth. Confirm models, option combinations, system access, certification impacts and deliverables in the agreed requirements and technical proposal.
Project path from inputs to acceptance
| Stage | Result to confirm |
|---|---|
| Requirements & use case | Use cases, critical tasks, destination markets and priorities |
| Platform & scope assessment | Platform gaps, service depth, scope and cost structure |
| Samples & joint validation | Sample configuration, interface tests, evidence and issue log |
| Configuration freeze & pilot build | Frozen configuration, pilot criteria, quality and certification requirements |
| Production delivery & support | Batches, releases, delivery documents and support ownership |
Product, project and engineering responsibilities
| Role | Decision focus | Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Product owner | User tasks, feature trade-offs and product releases | Requirement priorities, compatibility and interaction examples |
| Project and procurement lead | Scope, budget, milestones and acceptance | Engineering and purchase cost structure, dependencies and deliverables |
| SOTEN engineering and manufacturing | Device feasibility, integration and production consistency | Configuration and interface baseline, samples and test evidence |
| Software and integration partner | Applications, backend and site deployment | Applications and APIs, runtime, joint debugging and support ownership |
Prepare these inputs
| Input area | Details |
|---|---|
| Workflow and site | Describe operators, captured objects, mounting, shifts, connectivity and environmental constraints. |
| Product and commercial conditions | Provide an application demo, interface list, markets, expected volumes, budget structure and deployment window. |

Validation, acceptance and change control
Establish a requirements and gap list before commitment. Validate samples with real applications, tags, peripherals and site networks. Freeze hardware, firmware, accessories and test methods before pilot production. Evaluate engineering fees, tooling, certification, minimum quantities and schedules against the agreed scope rather than unit price alone.
Product platforms to evaluate
Use these platforms for selection and sample evaluation. Confirm operating systems, modules and accessories per variant; a fully custom device is not equivalent to the reference platform.

How do OEM / ODM relate to the three service levels?
OEM / ODM describe the commercial collaboration; light, semi and full customization describe engineering depth. They are not interchangeable labels. Branding may involve system permissions, while a new interface in an existing enclosure may require mechanical and reliability work. The reviewed scope determines the route.
